Welcome to the Museum of Ontario Archaeology!

Discover the history of archaeology and rich heritage of Southwestern Ontario. Featuring over 12,000 years of Ontario’s history, the Museum also cares for the Canadian heritage Site of the Lawson Village adjacent to the Museum. Visit us to learn about the human experience in Ontario, and life in the Lawson village from 500 years ago.

Please Note: The Museum of Ontario Archaeology is NOT open for walk-ins at this time. We are only offering pre-booked tours.

The Museum will be closed for the Thanksgiving long-weekend. We will resume pre-booked tours on Tuesday, October 10th.



Pre-Booked Tours

Visitors may pre-book guided tours at least 24 hours in advance. We have a few different tour options available for our pre-booked tours including a general guided tour and our popular tours and activities.

These tours are available Tuesdays to Saturdays at 10 AM, 1 PM, and 3 PM*. Pre-booking is required and can be done through the inquiry form below or by contacting info@archaeologymuseum.ca.

*Our 3 PM time slot is not available for the tour and activities option.



Our General Tours are approximately an hour in length and led by our knowledgeable guides who will take visitors through the Lawson Site and our permanent galleries.

Pricing:

For groups up to 5 (Including Individuals): $25

For groups up to 10: $50

After 10, additional per person charge: $5



Our new tour option Tour & Activity is a new spin on our popular Family Field Trip. In addition to a tour of the Lawson Site and permanent galleries, this option also includes a workshop(s), suitable for all ages.

Pricing for 1 Activity:*

For groups up to 5: $35

For groups up to 10: $70

After 10, additional per person charge: $7

*Hour and a half in length.

Pricing for 2 Activities:*

For groups up to 5: $45

For groups up to 10: $90

After 10, additional per person charge: $9

*Two hours in length.

Workshop Options

Want to learn how to make your own pinch pot? This fun workshop will encourage you to let your creativity run wild! Perfect for any age!

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be an archaeologist? In this behind-the-scenes workshop, you’ll handle some artifacts from our collections! You’ll also complete an artifact catalogue by measuring, weighing, and drawing your artifact.


Using the materials provided, you’ll make your very own artifact to take home with you! If you need some inspiration for your design, we’ve got you covered! Images of various artifacts will be provided.

After completing our gallery tour,  get ready to face-off against your opposing team to become the ultimate  “trowelblazer”! This game includes trivia questions focusing on archaeology.


Experience blazing fires, sleeping bunks strewn with furs, and stored food as you wander through a 16th century longhouse. Try the virtual archery range or handle objects and learn about archaeological artifacts from the Lawson Site.


Book Your Tour!

Pre-Booked Tours are available Tuesdays to Saturdays at 10 AM, 1 PM, and 3 PM*.

All tours must be booked at least 24 hours in advance.

*Please note that we are not able to offer our Tour and Activities for the 3 PM time slot. General Tours are still available for this time slot.
