Whorls shaped from broken soapstone cooking pots from the 11th-century L’anse aux Meadows site in Newfoundland, Canada.
Whorls were used as spindle weights for spinning fibre and thread. Different sizes/weights of whorls were used depending on the desired thickness of the fibre being spun.
