Join us on Thursday, May 29th from 11 AM to 1 PM to learn firsthand from Indigenous Knowledge Keepers about the traditional ways of planting maize along with her sister plants: beans, squash, and sunflowers.

MOA is honoured to partner with Laura Ramirez-Sanchez of Kakhwa’u:kwe’ (Oneida Original Foods) to host Elder Mary Anne Kechego, who will share traditional Oneida seed preparation and planting knowledge.

The Museum is located next to a 500 year old archaeological site of an Indigenous Longhouse Village whose inhabitants were agricultural and planted maize. As part of the event, attendees will also learn more about this archaeological record!

With help from a local high school Indigenous Studies class, a garden of local heirloom plants will be created at the Lawson Site.
