Sustainable Archaeology

Sustainable Archaeology began as a collaborative research initiative between Western University and McMaster University, funded by the Canadian Foundation for Innovation and the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation. Sustainable Archaeology: Western is in the process of merging with the Museum of Ontario Archaeology as digital archaeological research and storage facility that curates and hold in-trust archaeological collections generated through commercial and academic archaeology in Ontario. Together, each archaeological repository has a capacity of over 86,000 boxes containing millions of artifacts from across Ontario. Sustainable Archaeology’s philosophy facilitates research, and Descendant community and public access to these archaeological collections through a publicly accessible web-based database system.
