As an affiliate of the University of Western Ontario, the Museum employs University of Western Ontario (UWO) Work study students to help in various positions.
To be eligible for the listings below, you must be
pre-approved for Work study at Western or eligible for Young Canada Works.

Horticultural Assistant

The Horticultural Assistant maintains and interprets the museum’s Three-sister and Medicine Wheel Gardens as well as general planting areas.  The Horticultural Assistant will assist in designing garden areas with a focus on native plant species and developing interpretive materials. Click here to view the job description This is a Western Work study position. You must be pre-approved for hours before applying.

Museum Interpreter

Museum Interpreters engage visitors by sharing the museum’s stories through hands-on activities, demonstrations, and tours.  Working in a variety of areas, Museum Interpreters are responsible for assisting with the delivery of education programs, camp activities, tours, and birthday parties.  In addition, Museum Interpreters prepare for and demonstrate traditional First Nation’s crafts, technologies, and archaeological practices. Museum Technician

Museum Technicians assist with the care and maintenance of the museum’s collection and exhibits.  Museum Technicians are involved in cataloguing and reboxing artefacts, maintaining exhibit spaces, and processing archaeological samples.  Click here to view the job descriptionThis is a Western Work study position. Senior Camp Councillor

The Senior Camp Councillor will be responsible for delivering MOA’s summer camp program which provides a variety of experiences for children, including archaeological digs, games, art workshops, theatre, nature activities and gallery tours.  The Senior Camp Councillor will be responsible for the camp program, training and supervising camp councillors and volunteers, and ensuring campers have a positive experience at the museum. Junior Camp Counselors

Junior Camp counselors are required for the Museum of Ontario Archaeology’s summer season. The successful candidate will be enrolled in intersession and/or summer classes at Western University for 2014 and Eligible and approved for the Work Study program. Experience working with children and first aid training are assets. The Junior Camp counselors will assist the Senior Camp Counselor with the delivery of daily activities (Monday – Friday) for the Museum’s Summer Day Camp for children ages 5-9. This is a Western Work study position. You must be pre-approved for hours before applying.

Museum Gallery and Gift Shop Assistant

Working weekends, the student will oversee the Museum of Ontario Archaeology’s public gallery and gift shop. The candidate will greet and interact with visitors to the Museum, provide them with information on the Museum and starting them on a self-guided tour. Processing admissions and gift shop purchases through a cash register system, inventory management, as well as other daily duties are involved. This is a Western Work study position. You must be pre-approved for hours before applying. * This position has already been filled.
